Hymenoplasty
The hymen is a mucosa membrane that is a sign of virginity in a female. Several incidents can break hymen such as vigorous exercise or tampon insertion, while sexual intercourse is the most common cause of hymen rupture. Hymenoplasty is a surgical procedure to create the new hymen; the torn edges of the hymen can put back together.
A Good Candidate for Hymenoplasty
- Healthy women
- Women who have injures to the hymen before marriage
- Religious and culture or psychological reason
Preparation for Hymenoplasty
- Stop birth control medication ten days before surgery
- Stop smoking before and after surgery two weeks
- No alcohol three days
- Stop taking any anti-inflammatory medication such as, Ibruprofen, Aspirin at least two weeks, some vitamin and herbal supplement that may increase bleeding during and after surgery
Hymenoplasty procedure
Hymen repair is a simple operation. It can create from the lip of the vagina Surgery is based on suture approximation of hymen tags.
This procedure can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. Surgical time is approximately 30 minutes, and it should be done at least 3-4 weeks before marriage.
Postoperative care for Hymenoplasty
- Cleaning the surgical wound after urinating may be done with sanitary wipes
- Within a day after the surgery, the patient will be able to walk around and do the regular gentle activity
- You can have sexual intercourse six weeks after surgery
- No tampons or penetrative sex for six weeks
Risk and complication for Hymenoplasty
Risk and complication from hymenoplasty is sporadic, but it occurs include
- Immediately after treatment, swelling and bleeding will occur
- A stricture of the vagina
- Infection
- Prolonged bleeding
- Side effect from general anesthesia
Recovery
- A Patient will recover within two weeks after the surgery
- Patients return to work 1-4 days
- Gentle exercise will be done after 2-3 weeks.
